My Silenced Marathon… My Life…

Old radio ad is a new experience

Posted by: Anne on: November 26, 2008

A while after lunch I drove to the park and did short run today. My batteries for new Freedom for my Auditory Brain-stem Implant ABI died while I was running. (this processor is so new that I have only changed the batteries 4 times so far and charge – time is a little different from SPrint.) I changed batteries when I got to the car. After leaving the park, I had the car radio on. I usually don’t understand what they are singing and saying, but can tell if it is a person talking or if its music or if it sounds bad (most of the time, haha). So, I was stuck in really slow crawling traffic… Then a person started talking and I remember these ads from hears ago, when my hearing was good, but now, all of a sudden… I was understanding like ALMOST every single word…

“… At Shane, we have fine Rubies and diamonds, necklaces and earings….. we have gift sets for just 159.95. … Shane Diamonds Co…. We are located in alpharetta, and marietta, fayettville, and duluth,… … for more information please see shaneco.com. … come visit Shane Company today to see the wide selection we have to offer…. 404- __-___” …. (this might not be word for word exactly of ad, because I’m writing this hours later, but its close.)

The guy in the ad is talking really slow, compared to most stuff on the radio where the words all just sort of mashed together!

Whoo, I’m glad I didn’t crash into another car, being so distracted and listening to that radio ad!

Like my previous blog post… I talked to my dad on the phone, today! He was on the train, so it was really noisy, and he was saying about when he would get home, but he needs me to come and pick him up when he gets off the train. and then he said ” I love you”, and I said “oh, I love you too.” When he got home, he was really excited, so he was telling my mom all about the phone call, even though she had overheard the whole thing, from my side of the phone calls!

We have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!

hi, pops! by the way, I’ve not voted in that run-off thing yet. and i think the whole idea of stem cell research regrowing auditory nerves is sort of freaky. I’ve always been “hearing impaired”. You remember? I was deaf in 1 ear that whole time growing up, before I became deaf and before I got ABI! if i had hearing in both ears i probably still wouldn’t be able to tell where sounds came from! Also, my ear canals are closed off, so that probably would do no good anyways! bahahaha! your story sounds like a silly fairy-tale!
ps- i have full and happy life!
pps- your purple square thing is super ugly. i know you joined the blog site just to make that comment!
