My Silenced Marathon… My Life…

NYC Marathon (NF Team!) / and running with my new Freedom!

Posted by: Anne on: November 24, 2008

On November 2, 2008 me and about 30 or 40 in that team ran and all completed (with a33 number of PR times, including mine) the NYC Marathon! I just found out that through this event alone NF Endurance Team raised a lotal (so far) of about $ 68,000 toward a cure for Neurofibromatosis! Thanks to everyone who has helps with this! If you wRunning XC for RITould like to learn more see….     WWW.CTF.ORG     This was my 2nd full marathon, and first one in total silence. My first was in March 2007, just 10 days before I became fully deaf, but couldnt hear much at all after December 2005. (I had surgery to remove auditory Neuroma, tumors of the auditory nerve, caused by Neurofibromatosis.)

I have Neurofibromatosis Type 2, from which I became deaf at age 19.  In 2007 I got Auditory Brainstem Implant, and the coolest part is that I got a Freedom just last week, so now I can even run with it (I never ran with the SPrint sound processor. too big.) When I run its so weird because now, again, I can hear the sticks “snap” the dead fall leaves “rustling” when i step on them, and the cars “zoom” by. …and the best part is hearing my mom say “I love you.”
